Overview
The Import Export Code is a 10-digit registration issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, and it is mandatory before any business can import goods into India or export goods and most services out of it. Banks require the IEC to process foreign-currency remittances against trade, customs requires it to clear shipments, and export incentive schemes require it to pay benefits.
The application is filed on the DGFT portal against the business PAN, with bank and address details verified. ClearTLC prepares the application, handles the portal validations that commonly trip up first-time applicants (name mismatches between PAN, bank and address records are the usual cause of rejection), and delivers the IEC certificate to your document vault — typically within days.
As an SEO-stage service we currently fulfil IEC through a consultation-first flow: request a callback, confirm the quote in writing, and the filing is done by our partner professional. The DGFT's own fee of ₹500 is charged at actuals.

Frequently asked questions
Who needs an IEC?
Any person or business importing goods into India, or exporting goods, needs an IEC. Service exporters need it when claiming benefits under foreign-trade policy or receiving certain remittances.
Does the IEC expire or need renewal?
The IEC itself does not expire, but DGFT requires an annual electronic confirmation/update of the IEC details — an IEC not confirmed in the window is deactivated until updated. We include a reminder note with your deliverable.
Can an individual get an IEC without a company?
Yes — an IEC is issued against a PAN, so a sole proprietor can obtain one in their own name with their personal PAN and bank account.
Why do IEC applications get rejected?
Almost always because the name or address on the PAN, bank record and application do not match exactly. Our review step reconciles these before filing, which is why our applications rarely bounce.
GST & invoicing: Invoiced under SAC 998216 (other legal services) with 18% GST on the professional fee; the ₹500 DGFT fee is a pure reimbursement.
